{XG} Clan News / New clan tag!
« on: 31 March 2014, 23:46:47 »
Hello everyone today we have some exciting news for you!

We have decided to change our clan tag to {MEX} which stands for Mega Epic Extreme, we?ve done this because a lot of the players on Halo are Mexican and this way we can appeal more to them and attract more players to the clan and the servers.

We also believe we can get more female clan members in our clan this way, because a lot of the Mexicans are actually female!
To appeal more to the female clan members we?ve also made a new logo!

We also made some new clan application requirements, from now on every member needs to speak Spanish for better communicate with the rest of the Halo community.
This requirement does not apply to current members  but we encourage you to improve your Spanish.

Here are some tutorials:

For those of you who miss the windows glass interface: glass8.berlios.de
And for those who insist on having a start menu just like in Windows 7: http://www.classicshell.net/

Congratulations, you now have a Windows 8 version with all the benefits, like updated kernel, faster bootup, etc and which looks just like Windows 7.

General Discussion / Halo CE banner
« on: 23 February 2014, 01:14:34 »
Hey guys,

I noticed that halo custom edition doesn't have an official banner which shows custom maps.
Only thing I found was

But it doesn't show the Halo: CE feeling...

I would like to have a small banner for the Elite Game Servers website, which is iconic and really shows off it's halo custom edition.
Suggested banner size is: 1.050px width ? 454px height

Update: Just made this my self:

If you think you can do better, give it a shot ;)

General Discussion / The Day We Fight Back
« on: 11 February 2014, 23:58:44 »
https://thedaywefightback.org/international/

Today, February 11th, 2014 is The Day We Fight Back against mass surveillance!
See my message below as to why I think privacy is important.

Quote
Why is our privacy important?

In short Google, secret services and big data companies can gather so much data about you that they know exactly what you do and who you are.
This can be used for good and bad..
In my opinion collecting all information about everyone can be as dangerous as nuclear fission, and should be heavily regulated or even prohibited.

I don't believe agencies, companies and their employees only have good intentions with collecting data, so protecting your privacy is very important.

By just looking at the past you can see that even data that is only intended to be used for the good can be used against you. (for example when someone with bad intentions hacks in to their computer systems and gains access to this data)
An example of this is how The Netherlands has a good civil record/register of its citizens but when the NAZI's invaded The Netherlands in WW2 they used it to easily find the Jews and send them to concentration camps.

Since the past has shown us that bad things can happen and since there will always be people with bad intentions, I'm pretty sure something bad will happen by collecting data from everyone.
And let's not forget that sometimes people do things which we believe are good, but later we find out it was a very bad decision.

(For example nuclear fission)

Quote
"The release of atom power has changed everything except our way of
thinking...the solution to this problem lies in the heart of mankind. If
only I had known, I should have become a watchmaker."
- Albert Einstein

That's why I believe privacy is important and encourage everyone to protect their privacy!

Don't believe me or want to know more?
I highly suggest you read the book: Big Data by Viktor Mayer-Schonberger and Kenneth Cukier and also watch the NSA leaks from Snowden.

The rest of this post will be dedicated to maintaining privacy:
I've recently read in CT magazine(I'll get a quote ASAP) that Google Chrome and Internet Explorer utilize the DNS system build in Windows and this DNS system has a flaw which allows agencies and big corporations to redirect you to their own servers without you knowing it and gathering all the data.
Firefox has its own DNS system and it was suggested in this article to use Firefox instead.
Mozilla the open source community behind Firefox is a big supporter of online privacy and one of the many supports of the thedaywefightback.org program.

Because Google and Microsoft are big data company's I don't suggest using their browsers.
Firefox is opensource and not backed by a company which is interested in our data, so I highly suggest using Firefox instead.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This step is to configure Firefox and install addons to protect your privacy:
First we need to disable third party cookies as explained here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/disable-third-party-cookies
Also click: Tell websites I don't want to be followed.
Now I suggest installing HTTPS everywhere, which enables HTTPS encryption on more websites and improves your security (Also recommended on laptops and other devices which use public WiFi)

This is very important when we make use of a VPN or TOR so that those end point servers can't read our data since its encrypted.
I also suggest installing addblock plus and enabling the privacy filter. (If you don't get this option when installing adblock plusalready you can add the filter from here: https://easylist.adblockplus.org/en/ )
Note: if you've been using adblock plus in the past or are still using it, you might not have the above rule added.

The next step is to install the BetterPrivacy plugin and setting it to delete flash cookies when closing Firefox

Note: The plugins with a * can cause rendering issues with certain websites.
Only recommended for advanced users who can configure the plugins with whitelists.

*Now we install the notrace plugin, which blocks cookies which ignore the do not follow option.
We disable META cookies and redirects and cookies and referer in java script code
On the Web Tracking page we check everything except third party javascript, images and top 10 objects
On the last page we check everything but filter out advertisements. (it's bugy and adblock plus already does that)

I've tested these settings and they work fine with nearly all websites, it caused some issues with Google Analytics but you can choose to whitelist it with the orange claw icon on the right.

*The last step is to install the Firefox plugin: Firegloves which makes it harder to track us by randomizing data. (download @ http://fingerprint.pet-portal.eu/?menu=6 )
We've set it to Disable Plugin and mimeType lists
Use Document Fonts
Limit offset value queries
Enable do not track header, DOM Storage, HTTPS cache, Offline cache

We are now nearly untraceable on the internet, now all that needs to be done is hiding our IP address which can be done by using an encrypted VPN, proxy or TOR.

General Discussion / Just Cause 2 Multiplayer
« on: 17 December 2013, 12:29:07 »
Yesterday a multiplayer mod came out for Just Cause 2 (similar to gta sa mp) and today the game is on sale on steam for 3 euro  :D
it's an awesome open world game and you can play in 5000 slot servers.

Since the multiplayer is very new there are not many scripts and mods for it yet, but this game is likely going to be as popular as gta multiplayer.

{XG} Clan News / New DNS name to join the servers
« on: 28 November 2013, 20:10:27 »
Since we might get more servers in the United States I've added a new DNS "A record" to join the game servers.
You can use these in the direct ip field ingame as some of you already know.

dal1.xgclan.com - for Dallas
nl1.xgclan.com - for our server in the Netherlands

For example to join classic maps you can type the following in to direct IP: nl1.xgclan.com:2332 instead of typing the full IP: 46.249.47.12:2332
It's easier to remember and if you want to join on the Dallas server all you have to do is replace the nl1 with dal1, instead of typing the whole IP.

The current xgclan.com and us.xgclan.com still work, but will become deprecated in the future so I suggest switching to the above DNS names.

In the Netherlands there is a discussion about embassy personnel having immunity from the law since there where some issues with the embassy personnel from Russia in The Netherlands.

Now some Dutch news reporters walked to the Angolian embassy in The Hague and asked them to move their improperly parked car.
But the personnel from the Angolian embassy didn't appreciate that... (I have to add that this Dutch news channel is called pownews, and they are known for being provocative. So they probably ringed the door bell at the embassy for half an hour to piss emm off... but still that doesn't make violence appropriate! )

You can watch it in this video:

Part of it is English, so you will be fine ;)

Arma Series / Arma 3 maps
« on: 20 November 2013, 22:04:47 »
As some of you might know, I've already bought Arma 3.
So far it looks really great, the single player is a bit less hardcore compared to Arma 2 I hope this is the case in the rest of the gameplay as well.

Unfortunately there aren't as many mods for it as there are for Arma 2 yet, but people have already converted dayz over to Arma 3:
http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/145580-new-vs-old-chernarus-56k-warning/

It looks really cool in my opinion, especially because the engine is designed for Mediterranean maps so it isn't as dark as Arma 2.
A down side to this is that it is easier to be found and targeted, for example in Dayz. (but perhaps we will see Dayz maps with more fog to compensate for this)

Another cool thing is that there is a huge map which is going to be released for free later, the is map called Altis and is based on the Greek island Lemnos
To bad they didn't add Crete(which I went to on vacation a couple of months ago)
(https://maps.google.nl/maps?q=Lemnos&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:nl:official&client=firefox-a&gws_rd=cr&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&ei=VhyNUoWuN6nX0QXJroCIAw&ved=0CAoQ_AUoAg)

Actually you can already play on this map in the showcase missions (which allow you to drive vehicles and such, but there is no gameplay like enemies, etc).
I've done this and noticed that travelling from one side of the map to another can be over 20KM in distance!
Luckily the new vehicles are a bit faster and handle better.

I've even managed to crash a heli and kill my self without blowing up the heli (it was in operational however).

All in all I can't wait to play Dayz on this, but you definitely want to use outposts and not just have one major base.
Also it's going to be harder to hide a base/outpost, you would probably want to place one at the other side of a hill (which there are plenty of on this map)

I hope some of the moded dayz mod's(DayZ Genesis/Dayz Epoch) for Arma 2 will make it over to Arma 3, so we can trade and build our own bases and buildings which makes game play even more interesting and dynamic.
