How to create a private server in Halo PC/CE
« on: 12 October 2012, 16:16:00 »
Greetings fellow visitor.I'll be showing you how to create a private server in Halo PC and CE using the all-around, revolutionary software called Tunngle. If you intend to play with a friend, then he'll/she'll should do all of this too. Let's get started.

What you first need to have/do:
Knowing how to let a program through your firewall
Knowing how to deactivate an active network
An IQ over 60
What you don't need is Hamachi. Seriously, uninstall it before even doing the steps I'm about to make. Or deactivate its network, it'll help as much, since it'll show up again after you log in to your computer.

Step 1: Tunngle is the software you'll need. Here's the download page:

After that, you'll have to install it and reboot your computer afterwards.

Step 2: Now to use Tunngle, you'll have to register yourself to the site first:
http://www.tunngle.net/community/index.php?app=core&module=global&section=register
You'll have to verify yourself too.

Step 3: I recommend you should let Tunngle through your firewall. I know everyone has different firewalls, so I can't tell you how on every firewall.

Step 4: Open Tunngle, login with your username and wait for it to finish its stuff. With that, you'll get the Tunngle window. Left, you'll see a list of genres. Doubleclick on shooter and you'll get a list of games. Under it, you'll see arrows, which will browse through many other games in that genre. With that, find Halo or Halo Custom Edition and doubleclick on it. With that, you'll enter its network slot. You should see your friend in it too from the list on the right.

Alright, here's a reminder: Uninstall Hamachi or deactivate its active network. This causes a lot of problems if you don't. Also, don't forget to let the halo.exe or haloce.exe through your firewall too.

Step 5: Start Halo or Halo CE. Both you and your friend must have the same default client and server ports, which you can customise in the network settings. From here, you and your friend should go in seperate ways.

Step 5.1: If you plan on hosting the game, then do the following. Create a LAN server. And wait for your friend.

Step 5.2: If you're the guest, then do this: Go to the LAN server list. Here's the tricky part. You won't see your friend's server immediately. Instead, it'll show up after an amount of time. How long you wait matters on the distance between you and the host. Example, I had to wait 2-5 minutes until I saw my friend's server, since he lives in Canada.

Step 6: Well, just have fun I guess.
